Ease of Use. The RF 70-200mm F4L IS USM lens is officially the World's shortest and lightest 70-200mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/4 for 35mm full-frame cameras. It weighs in at a mere 695g and measures just 11.9cm in length. This makes it a little longer than a tin of baked beans and a little shorter than a can of beer!
The last Canon L prime I reviewed (EF 35mm f/1.4L II) debuted around $2000, and many of us expected at least that for this lens. Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM (1/50 sec, f/2.8, ISO160) (Image credit: Future) In our time with the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM, it performed like an amped-up version of the EF equivalent – in particular, focus seemed snappier, thanks no doubt to the improved capabilities of the EOS R system and the faster communication enabled by the RF mount.
The quality of the bokeh is exceptional, with super-smooth blur and particularly minimal longitudinal or ‘bokeh’ fringing. The aperture remains more well-rounded when stopping down a little, compared with Canon’s alternative EF f/1.2 and f/1.8 85mm lenses. Read our full Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM review for more details
